Afterburner Video

This video was shot in the mid 1990’s during Desert Blast 9, and private pyrotechnic party. The owner/builder of the jet car wanted to capture video from the afterburner.
Armed with my professional Sony Beta Camera and two of my friends who were brave enough to crouch down a couple hundred feet behind the jet car, with nothing more than a 3 foot by 3 foot piece of plexiglass to protect us, set out to capture the fury. The tremendous amount of sand and debris blown in our direction was so great that onlookers said we disappeared in a cloud of dust. Fortunately, no one was hurt and the camera’s dust shield held up as well – the only thing was that all of us ended up with sand in some unnatural places – LOL. But I have to admit this was one of the most unusual videos I ever had the opportunity to shoot.
